The newly appointed Secretary General of the Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), Bonnie Mugabe, has delivered a firm message to the federation’s employees, urging them to embrace pressure, adopt a new mindset, and commit to performance-based work or step aside. Mugabe made these remarks on Monday, December 1, 2025, as he officially took over office from Mugisha Richard, who had been serving in an acting capacity. Addressing the employees after the handover, he emphasized that every individual within the institution—regardless of their role—must align with the federation’s renewed ambitions. He stated that even the lowest-ranking staff members have a stake in FERWAFA’s success, noting that responsibilities stretch from the gatekeeper to the cleaner. He stressed that the federation expects a complete shift in work culture and dedication. He warned that FERWAFA will now operate under pressure to deliver results, and anyone unable to cope with this environment would eventually be replaced. “We are going to work under pressure. If you are not ready for that, unfortunately, it will not work,” he said. He added that firing underperforming employees would only be a last resort, though the option remains on the table. Mugabe also criticized the previous work habits where employees limited themselves to weekday schedules and standard working hours. He made it clear that such behavior will no longer be tolerated and that the federation requires a new discipline aligned with its future goals. He urged employees to maintain unity, avoid internal conflicts, and work collectively to prevent mistakes that could affect the entire institution. FERWAFA President Shema Ngoga Fabrice expressed full support for Mugabe’s approach, declaring that the federation is adopting a results-driven performance culture. He emphasized that every employee must show evidence of their work and that mere presence in the office will no longer suffice. All staff members will sign performance contracts tied to clear and measurable objectives. Shema also pointed out that FERWAFA continues to struggle with time management and productivity, promising to push employees until they deliver. He insisted that the federation will offer training and support to staff, but those who fail to improve will be dismissed respectfully and professionally. Among FERWAFA’s current priorities are improving financial management, enhancing the quality of competitions, strengthening infrastructure, and increasing revenue through better utilization of available resources. The leadership believes that achieving these goals requires discipline, accountability, and a strong work ethic across all levels of the federation.
